To determine the median age of natural menopause who have attended to fiiflli Etfal Hospital Menopause Outpatient Clinic and whether smoking, socioeconomic status and parity affecting that age. A total of women who have attended to Şişli Etfal Hospital Menopause Outpatient Clinic are investigated. 371 of patients who had had natural menopause defined as cessation of menstruation for at least 12 months at the end of
reproductive years were evaluated. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and face to face interviews and included smoking, parity and socioeconomic variables. The median age of the natural menopause in our patients is 47.4±2.9 years. This is significantly lower than the median age reported from the Western countries (50.3 years). 32 of our patients were nulliparous (8.6 %); 339 of those were multiparous (% 91.4). The median age of menopause in nulliparous and multiparous was 45.1±2.1, 47.6±3.0 respectively (p<0.05). Smoking and socioeconomic status did not related to menopausel age (p>0.05). Nowing the factors that decreases the avarege menopausal age will help us to increase this age together with the proper and time the diagnosis all the cases will also increase life quality after manopausal age and in circumtances of our country this study showes that we will need to have many more studies with many more cases. The subject median age of the menopause was signiticanfly related to parity (p<0.05). Keywords: Menopause, onset age, parity, smoking

Menopoz polikliniğine başvuran doğal menopoz olgularında menopoz başlangıç yaş ortalamasını, parite, sigara içimi ve sosyoekonomik durumun menopoz yaş ortalaması üzerine etkisinin olup olmadığını değerlendirmeyi amaçladık. Şişli Etfal Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi menopoz polikliniğine başvuran toplam 542 postmenopozal hasta değerlendirmeye alındı. Cerrahi menopozda olduğu tespit edilen 171 hasta çalışma kapsamı dışında bırakıldı. Çalışma grubunu oluşturan hastaların menopoz yaşı, paritesi, sigara kullanımı ve sosyoekonomik durumu prospektif olarak incelendi. Doğal menopoz grubunu oluşturan hastaların yaş ortalaması 47.4±2.9 olarak tayin edildi. Çalışmaya alınan olguların 32’si (% 8.6) nullipar, 339 (% 91.4) hasta multipar idi. Nullipar ve multiparların menopoz başlangıç yaş ortalamaları sırasıyla 45.1±2.1, 47.6±3.0 olarak saptandı. ‹ki grup arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı idi (p<0.05). Menopoz başlangıç yaş ortalamasını düşüren etkenlerin bilinmesi menopoza giriş yaş ortalamalarını yükseltmeye çalışmanın yanında, olguların erken dönemde tanı ve tedavisini sağlayarak hastaların postmenopozal dönemdeki yaşam kalitesini artıracağından, ülkemizde bu konuda daha fazla ve büyük serili çalışmalar yapılması gerektiğine inanmaktayız.
