Spinal cord diseases should always be kept in mind in the evaluation of patients with pain, sensory disturbances and weakness.
A patient with a longstanding pain and muscular weakness is presented and discussed here. He had been evaluated and treated by many other clinics before. He was undiagnosed and his complaints worsened by time. The physical examination revealed upper motor neuron signs which led us to a spinal cord pathology. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated syringomyelia.
A careful history and physical examination is an important means of arriving at a diagnosis. The clinician must be cognizant of signs and symptoms that may indicate a serious disorder
as a spinal cord pathology.
