Hairy polyps are rare congenital oropharyngeal malformations containing ectodermal and mesodermal components. The symptoms are associated with the location and size of the mass. Upper airway obstruction and feeding difficulty are common symptoms. Because of these symptoms they are diagnosed at or shortly after birth. Hairy polyps are usually pedunculated masses but sometimes attached to the broad area of the oronasopharynx. There are different theories about the pathogenesis of hairy polyps. We report a case of neonatal respiratory distress associated with oropharyngeal polypoid mass in a 3-day-old girl. The patient operated under general anesthesia. The examination of the patient after intubation showed a pedunculated mass which was orginated from the upper pole of left palatin tonsil and obstructed oropharynx. The mass was totally removed. After operation no complications developed and the patient discharged after begining orally nutrition. Histopathological diagnosis was made as hairy polyp. Hairy polipler ektodermal ve mezodermal komponentlerden oluşan orofarenksin nadir görülen konjenital malformasyonlarıdır. Kitlenin neden olduğu semptomlar yeri ve büyüklüğü ile ilişkilidir. Sıklıkla üst solunum yolu obstrüksiyonu ve beslenme zorluğu görülür. Bu nedenle doğumla birlikte yada doğumdan kısa bir süre sonra teşhis edilirler. Sıklıkla pediküllü olan hairy polipler bazen geniş tabanlı da olabilirler. Hairy poliplerin patogenezi hakkında değişik teoriler mevcuttur. Yazımız-da orofarenksteki polipoid kitleye bağlı solunum sıkıntısı olan 3 günlük, kız çocuğu hasta sunuldu. Hasta genel anestezi altında ameliyata alındı. Hastanın entübasyon sonrası yapılan muayenesinde sol palatin tonsil üst kutbundan kaynaklanan ve tüm orofarenksi tıkayan pediküllü kitle görüldü. Kitle total olarak çıkartıldı. Postoperatif herhangibir komplikasyon görülmeyen hasta oral beslenmeye geçilmesini takiben taburcu edildi. Kitlenin histopatolojik incelemesi hairy polip olarak bildirildi.
