High dose intravenous immunglobuline (IVIG) preparations used in the childhood idiopathic thrombositopenic purpura (ITP) management can induce aseptic meningitis and so longer hospitalization. In our Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Department IVIG is successfully used in the treatment of the ITP cases. Drug-induced aseptic meningitis developed as a result of IVIG administration in 3 patients of ITP and 24 hours after perfusion, the symptoms and signs subsided. Recently studies pointing out the beneficial affect of corticosteroid prophylaxis in the prevention of IVIG-induced aseptic meningitis are reported.
