The hepatic hydatid cyst is a progressive type of benign disease caused by Ecinococcus granulosus and may cause such complications that result in serious morbidity and mortality including suppuration of cyst, compression of surrounding tissues and rupture into adjacent structures. Rarely anaphylactic reactions due to traumatic or spontaneous rupture of hepatic hydatid cyst may occur and death ensue. Therefore, timely diagnosis and treatment are very important to prevent the morbidity and mortality associated with the anaphylaxis. Nontraumatic leakage of cyst contents into the blood circulation is an uncommon triggering factor for anaphylaxis. Unless treated surgicaly, rupture can result in death.
In this case report, we present a 28 year old male patient in order to emphasize the hydatid disease in the differential diagnosis of anaphylaxis who was admitted to the emergency room with urticaria and respiratory distress and operated for ruptured hepatic hydatid cyst.
