In this report, we presented a case with fever of unknown origin caused by subacute thyroiditis.
A 40-year-old man with diabetes mellitus was admitted to emergency department because of fever, weight loss, fatigue, nervousness and tremulousness. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate and the serum thyroxine and triiodothyronin levels was elevated. The 24-hour radioactive iodine uptake was supressed to 1 %. We made the diagnosis of subacute thyroiditis in this case.
In conclusion, subacute thyroiditis should always be kept in mind for the etiology of the fever of unknown origin.
